Vienna is the capital of the republic of Austria and
has a population of just under two million people. Its rich
history is reflected in the cities stunning architecture and
a wealth of world class museums and stylish shops.
Presenter Estelle Bingham discovers how easy it is
to get around on foot. She discovers Royal retailers namely
Kochert, who was appointed the personal jeweller to
the Austrian Emperor in 1849. Here she tries on a diamond
tiara, dog chain and a broach with a great story. Imperial
Cobbler Ludwig Reiter is also on Estelle's shopping
list as is the must have Austrian costume, the tracht. For
tourist souvenirs Estelle finds out Mozart has his
name on everything from chocolates to baseball caps.
Vienna has a strong artistic tradition and the last century
saw an emergence of Art Nouveau and modernism and today.
Estelle visits the cities largest auction house the Dorotheum
for some modern art. Not yet satisfied, she treks around the
Saturday flea-market in search for some more art nouveau
decorative items. Finally she tracks down the famous and much
wanted Lomo camera. |
