Essential Malaysia: Malacca, Penang
& Borneo

Where to stay, recommended tour guides, and tourist boards, as featured in the TV show Globe Trekker: Malaysia: Malacca, Penang, & Borneo.

Where to stay

Eastern Heritage
8 Jalan Bukit China
75110 Malacca
West Malaysia

A dying breed of backpacker hangouts in Malacca. It’s basic, it’s cheap, it has a dipping pool and in its hey day was a rich ornate Chinese mansion. It's not in the same league as other restored Chinese mansions but it has charm and is truly recommended as a budget place to stay. On top of this the location is really unbeatable, just a 10 minute walk from the express bus station and another 10 minutes to the historical heart of the city.

Oriental Inn
Block C - Oriental Village
Teluk Burau

The true selling point of this hotel is its staff, they are helpful beyond the call of duty. Located at the base of the Langkawi cable car the views of the impending mountain are superb. The Oriental Inn is located in a holiday village which is not to everyone’s taste, it does however mean that all your needs are a catered for in one well thought out package.
