In Ouidah, within the former 19th century French colony of Benin in West Africa, many of the old colonial houses have been turned into hotels. You can stay in relative luxury with a view of the Ocean.

When to go

The south, coastal region of Benin has a tropical climate with an average temperature of 65ºF. The dry season is from December to April. In the north of the country it's less humid but the temperatures can soar.
