ADVENTURE GOLF

Attractions on and off the World's Most Remarkable Golf Courses

Adventure GolfThis lavishly illustrated guide combines two strong passions - golf and travel - in one spectacular book. It's the perfect planning or dream book for those who want to play unusual courses and sample culture and environment around the globe.

As a companion volume to the multi-part public television series airing nationwide this Fall, Adventure Golf (Globe Pequot Press, November 2005) both inspires and involves the reader on vicarious visits to Japan, Scotland, United Arab Emirates, Southern California, and South Africa. Join the intrepid Pilot Productions team as they play top courses and golf resorts worldwide, and then tag along on outings off the course, where you'll celebrate national festivals, visit top tourist and historic sites, and enjoy activities such as wine tasting, volcano hikes, and gliding.

Each chapter covers the history of golfing in a particular country and selected courses are identified for each region, with full descriptions complemented by fabulous photographs and specially produced course graphics. As a special bonus, a DVD of the Scotland episode from the television show is included inside each book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Pilot Productions provides factual magazine series and adventure-travel programmes for broadcasters in more than 40 countries. Programs can be seen in the U.S. on Discovery Networks, Arts & Entertainment and Public Television.

Ian Cross's media career in newspapers, radio and television spans 30 years and three continents - the United States, his native Australia, and the UK, where he lives with his wife and two children. For three years he was European correspondent for ABC-TV, then in 1988 he produced the Beyond Tomorrow science series for Fox Networks in the United States.

Ian is a recent convert to the pleasures of golf - he took up the game in 1994 upon turning 40-years-old and soon became a keen aficionado of the sport. Whilst filming for Adventure Golf on the King's Course in Gleneagles, he met his downfall at "Whaup's Nest", the 8th, where he took 18 shots to get out of a bunker. Bunkers are his most feared golf hazard. Today he is a handicap 18 golfer who leads a nomadic-cum-jet-setting golfing life - he has no home club but enjoys playing the game internationally - particularly in Northern France and Links Golf in Scotland and Ireland.

During the first season of filming for Adventure Golf, Ian has experienced some of the greatest golf courses in the world in Scotland, Dubai, Southern California, Japan, South Africa, and Florida. He was bowled over by the high-tech and futuristic golf experience in Japan, in particular the Gotemba Course overlooking Mount Fuji.
